The right questions to ask to keep yourself motivated

Asphalt Road Under Cloudy Sky

Have you ever noticed that much of life is about asking the right questions?

When you ask the right questions, you get a better understanding of things and those ‘things’ tend to get a little easier to manage. The same can be said for becoming more motivated. If you are feeling stuck in a rut, either personally or professionally, ask yourself the questions below for a boost in motivation.

1. What’s my overall goal?

Take a step back to remind yourself of your goal and why you want to achieve it. This gentle reminder can be all it takes to help you to get your motivation back.

2. What small steps do I need to take to achieve my goal?

If you set yourself a huge target, it can become overwhelming and a seeming lack of progress can dent your motivation. Breaking your goal down into more manageable steps can help you to stay focused and will boost your motivation until the overall goal is achieved.

3. What lessens my motivation?

Recognising what affects your motivation will give you a clear picture of what you need to change in order to get it back.

4. What habits can I add to my routine to increase my motivation?

If your current habits aren’t having a positive impact on your motivation, it’s time to change them for new. Identify what new habits you could create to support your goals.

5. What obstacles do I face?

Take a look at your thoughts and behaviours in an effort to recognise any obstacles that might sabotage your motivation. Once you recognise potential pitfalls, work to fix them.

6. Who do I have to support me?

Before you set about achieving your goal, it’s worth considering who will be there to help you maintain your motivation. In times of negative thinking, it’s important to have somebody to talk to; the same goes for in times of success.

7. How am I going to reward myself?

It’s so important to reward yourself along the way to your overall goal. Making a note of how you will do this is a great motivator in itself. It’s good to have something to look towards!

If you’re struggling to keep your focus on your end goal, ask yourself a few of these questions. The more questions you ask, the greater chance you’ll have of achieving your goals. Good luck!
