AI bingo: how many will you spot?

Say hello… to AI bingo! © Pexels (with a slight add-on by me)

I’m not saying if you see these words used in blog posts, social media captions or essays that they have definitely been generated by AI, but I’m not not saying that either.

Just for fun: how many will you spot today after reading this?

Elevate

I shall die on the hill that real people do not use the word ‘elevate’ much at all.

In this digital landscape

I’m a commissioning editor for digital marketing agencies. If writers submitted their work using this phrase, I’d have to have a (non-AI generated) word!

Foster

As in ‘can foster long-time trust’ - similar to ‘elevate’, it’s just not human-sounding in this written context.

Say goodbye to… say hello to…

A personal ‘favourite’ of mine to spot - in fact, it’s an ongoing game in my house to spot well-known brands using these in their advertising campaigns. I won’t name names, in case [redacted] wants to employ my freelance copywriter services in the future. But there’s a lot of them out there. Happy spotting!

Delve

AI’s way of suggesting that its content is informative, detailed and factual. Even when it so often is not.

Skyrocket

Thanks to Freya Padmore on LinkedIn for this one. As she says, CRINGE.

Furthermore

Let me guess: students have been using this a lot in their AI-generated essays in recent months. Although I vaguely remember using ‘furthermore’ in my dissertation and it felt so fancy back then.

Unlock

…often followed by ‘the potential of…’ - don’t settle for this; we can do better.

What’s the AI phrase that drives you to distraction?

AI is here to stay but as a freelance copywriter, I’m not too scared of it yet. If you’re a business owner looking for human, personable copy that converts, get in touch. I’ll help you elevate that skyrocket, or something like that 😉.
